Art in Space and Time

Artistic Basics

(Heiner Franzen)

The course aims to recombine physical processes such as eyesight, tactility, memory, movement, etc. as elements of drawing with the help of experiments and exercises and thus to create in order to provide a wide variety of approaches to acquiring drawing skills. The focus is on drawing exercises that build on each other, by means of which the students try out and develop various forms of drawing.

Charcoal, pencil and inke are mainly used as drawing tools. All participants work together in the hall, alternating on the table, wall and floor on variable paper formats. The practice rounds are initiated by picture examples and video clips. Here we compare drawings from the visual arts, film/video, cartoon, theater, architecture, etc. These examples convey the special features of different materials and milieus and give concrete impulses for our practice.
